Has it been 20-odd years since I first wrote this piece??? Wow, nothing dies on the Internet! LOL! This piece brings back alot of memories...I wrote it write before I found out that Paramount was launching a new series for their flagship network: STAR TREK: VOYAGER. I didn't follow Trek news back then so I wasn't aware how long this new series had been incubating over at Paramount. Once I found out the details -- a crew struggling to make its way home after being thrown across the galaxy -- I became disheartened and quit writing this piece because of the similar theme. But I never forgot about it, always toyed with the idea of resurrecting my characters from this piece. "DEMARTS" was the screen name of Dayton Ward, a fellow fanfic writer. He had just written an amazing fanfic piece which at the time had no title (to which he would later call "The Road Less Travelled") but would someday be published (under a different title) in paperback. In any event, it's nice to see this still hanging around. I like to think my writing skills have improved somewhat since those days...just reading the part about Alex Llorente using a PADD brought a grin to my face seeing as that when I wrote that, a device like Star Trek's PADD was pure science fiction technology. Today, what would our live be like now WITHOUT the iPad? :) Well, enough strolling down Memory Lane. Perhaps I should revisit that stranded ship with her stalwart Captain Cervantes and his loyal crew, see what adventures they've encountered on their long quest home... :)
